Just like in the west , it was male dominated society and has changed a lot. Girls are treated equally these days and definitely nothing like what you have mentioned (I didn’t read those books ) . Reality of today’s india is very different

Not to forget india had female prime minister back in 1966 - amongst first few in the whole world (US is yet to have one )
